Job Description
Two PhD positions are available in Dr. Jinxia Liu’s research group at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with a start date of September 2025. Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2025.
Research Opportunities:
The PhD students will participate in cutting-edge research on legacy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and emerging fluorochemicals associated with the use of lithium-ion batteries. The group’s work emphasizes:
- Developing advanced characterization methods for environmental and biological samples.
- Investigating biological defluorination mechanisms and their application in pollution mitigation.
- Designing innovative treatment technologies for fluorochemical pollution.
- Examining the environmental impacts of fluorochemicals derived from lithium-ion batteries, as well as pollution tracking and mitigation strategies.
Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in at least one of the following areas: environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, or engineered treatment processes.
- Willingness to engage in both laboratory and field research.
- Demonstrated research aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a passion for problem-solving.
- Prior experience with advanced analytical instrumentation or molecular microbial techniques is highly desirable.
