Job Description

The Hooman Research Lab, led by Prof. Hooman Vatankhah, is seeking a motivated Ph.D. student to join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida International University in Miami, starting in Fall 2025.

The research focuses on emerging contaminants, microplastics, and technologies for their removal from aquatic environments. At FIU, our team integrates principles of environmental and analytical chemistry to investigate the fate and transport of emerging contaminants and to design advanced treatment systems.

Candidate Requirements

  • A master’s degree in civil and/or environmental engineering or equivalent, with a solid foundation in chemistry and process engineering, is required.
  • Willingness to design and build bench and pilot-scale systems
  • Ability to work independently, mentor students, and collaborate in a team
  • Experience with analytical lab instruments (e.g., LC-MS, TOC analyzer) and proficiency in data analysis
  • Excellent written and spoken English Responsibilities
  • Experimental design, laboratory skills and data management
  • Write scientific publications, reports, policy briefs, and guidelines
  • Operate LC-MS systems
  • Manage, operational, financial, and project reports
