Prof. Junyue Holden Wang’s lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maine is seeking for motivated Ph.D. students to join, starting in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
Holden’s research has been focused on physical-chemical treatment, chemical and microbial contaminants, decarbonization, and other emerging urban and environmental problems. The student will lead the research in one of the following areas:
- Mass spectrometry-based analysis of emerging pollutants.
- Ultraviolet-based advanced oxidation or reduction processes with innovative reagents.
- Degradation and control of emerging pollutants, e.g., per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), disinfection byproducts (DBPs).
- Pathogen inactivation and microbial analysis.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, environmental sciences, or related fields.
- Research experience in above-mentioned fields is advantageous.
- Passions in environmental research and interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Strong scientific writing and communication skills.
