Job Description

Position Description:
The Wang research group at the University of Houston is seeking highly motivated applicants for 1-2 PhD positions, starting Spring 2026 or Fall 2026. The projects will focus on developing protein-based materials and new biocatalytic systems for 1) the removal of micropollutants (e.g., PFAS), 2) the recovery of critical metals from waste streams, and 3) CO2 sequestration.

Qualifications:
1) B.S. or M.S. in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field
2) Strong academic record
3) Good communication and scientific writing skills
4) Wet-lab experience in molecular biology, microbiology, synthetic biology, and/or biochemistry is a plus

Start Date: Spring 2026 or Fall 2026
