Dr. Dongye Zhao’s group at San Diego State University is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher or visiting research scholar to carry out research focusing on developing and testing novel catalysts for catalytic degradation of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in water. Under the supervision of the PI, the candidate is expected to carry out preparation, characterization and testing of novel catalysts that can effectively catalyze degradation of PFAS, analyzing and interpreting experimental data, and publishing the results in reputable journals.
The desired qualifications include:
1) A Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science and engineering, or other related disciplines;
2) Solid knowledge on catalyst preparation and catalysis chemistry, and experience in preparation, characterization, and testing of novel catalysts and basic computational skills based on Density-functional theory.
3) Knowledge and experience in conducting experiments on sorption/desorption, catalysis, and advanced redox reactions of organic pollutants;
4) Working knowledge with related analytical instruments (e.g., LC-MS/MS); and
5) Good organizational and English speaking and writing skills.
The initial appointment will be for one year with possible renewal (depending on availability of funds and performance). Applicants should submit a current resume, a cover letter stating your qualifications, and contact information of two references to Dr. Don Zhao by E-mail dzhao2@sdsu.edu.
