Job Description

Dr. Ramesh Goel’s Lab at the University of Utah is looking to recruit a post-doctoral fellow in environmental microbiology and bioinformatics. The successful candidate will join a group of Ph.D, master’s, and undergraduate students dedicated to collaborative research in microbial ecology and structure in engineered and natural ecosystems. 

The successful candidate will work with PI Dr. Ramesh Goel for sampling of planktonic and benthic cyanobacteria in natural ecosystems, process the collected samples in collaboration with other Ph.D students for sequencing, provide mentorship to graduate students, and help the PI in report and grant writing. A comprehensive mentoring plan for the post-doc fellow is created for their career development. The post-doc fellow will also lead peer-reviewed publications. The candidate is expected to support a diverse and collaborative laboratory culture. 

The post-doc fellow should have a Ph.D in environmental microbiology and science, environmental engineering, aquatic ecology or a closely related field. Experience in bioinformatics, molecular methods, including RT-qPCR, DNA/RNA extractions, prokaryotic cell biology, and cell culturing is highly preferred.
