Position Description:
Shandong University, founded in 1901, is a key comprehensive university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, with a long history, a full range of disciplines, strong academic strength, and distinctive characteristics. It enjoys significant influence both domestically and internationally. In 1997, it was included in China’s “Project 211,” and in 2001 it was designated as a key construction university under “Project 985” for building highlevel research institutions. In 2017, it was selected as one of China’s universities for the “Double FirstClass” initiative.
The Institute of Blue-Green Development is affiliated with the Institute for Frontier and Interdisciplinary Sciences at Shandong University, Weihai. The institute addresses major needs in marine development (“blue”) and green, lowcarbon economic transition (“green”). With a focus on the global frontiers of economics–resources–environment–climate research, it emphasizes interdisciplinary and crosssectoral studies on sustainable management and green development of multisystem, multidimensional marine economy and resources, framed within the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The institute strives for breakthroughs in forwardlooking fundamental research, cultivates a cohort of innovative strategic scientists with an international vision, and aims to establish a new highlight of academic excellence within Shandong University. The institute’s fulltime faculty have an average age of 35.3 years, with over 60% possessing longterm overseas study or work experience. Currently, there are 16 full and parttime professors, including 1 national leaderlevel talent, 4 recipients of the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund, 1 specially appointed expert of Shandong Provincial Key Talent Program, 4 provincial young experts under the same program, 10 selected into Shandong University’s Distinguished Talent System, and 2 Fellows of the British Academy of Social Sciences (parttime). Research areas encompass theoretical economics, environmental economics, ecological economics, and sustainable development management. Since its establishment, the institute has undertaken major projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, major and key programs of the National Natural Science Foundation, and priority R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It has published over 300 papers in top journals such
as Science, Nature and its subjournals, PNAS, Social Sciences in China, and Economic Research.
In 2025, the Institute of BlueGreen Development (https://aais.wh.sdu.edu.cn/english/) and Ghent University’s Centre for Green Chemistry and Environmental Biotechnology (https://rc3.ghent.ac.kr/) co-established the International Joint Laboratory for Sustainability Science. Its research covers: Theme-1. Sustainable Development Science and Econimics; Theme-2. Renewable energy and bio-based materials; Theme-3. Urban water systems and coastal climate resilience, targeting innovations for “blue (marine)–green (biological)” future technologies and industrial chains that address global sustainability challenges.The institute is now seeking to recruit 1–2 postdoctoral researchers to engage in innovative, high-level research on blue-green technologies.

Recruitment Procedure
1.Personal application;
2.Qualification review by the recruiting unit;
3.Assessment of the applicant’s ideological and political performance and academic ethics by the grassroots Party organization;
4.Academic evaluation by the grassroots academic committee on the applicant’s research achievements and development potential, with ranking and recommendation;
5.Review and assessment organized by the university;
6.Public announcement of the proposed candidates by the university;
7.Admission procedures (to be completed within 3 months after the official announcement of the selected candidates; overdue applications will be considered as voluntary withdrawal);
8.Registration at the university and signing of the employment contract.
Salary and Benefits
1.An annual pretax salary of no less than 300,000 RMB (University Specially Sponsored Postdocs) or 200,000 RMB (SchoolKey Sponsored Postdocs), generally for a duration of 2 years. Additional matching support from the host unit and cooperating supervisor is encouraged.
2.Eligible candidates may also benefit from postdoctoral talent policy subsidies provided by the city of Weihai, where the university is located.
3.The university has four affiliated hospitals and several affiliated schools (kindergarten, primary, and secondary), offering highquality medical care and basic education services for postdocs whose personnel affiliation is transferred to Shandong University.
4.During the postdoctoral period, social insurance and housing provident funds are paid at the same standards as fulltime faculty, with equal access to library and research resources.
5.Eligible postdocs are offered discounted rental apartments on campus.6.The university provides research startup funding for two years.7.International academic exchange programs support postdocs in participating in highlevel international academic activities, specifically with partner institutions such as the Ghent University Global Campus in Songdo International Business District, South Korea.
Relevant Provisions
1.Postdocs must transfer their personnel affiliation to Shandong University and be fully engaged in postdoctoral research. The work will be carried out across China and South Korea.
2.Postdoctoral assessments include a mid-term review and a final evaluation upon completion, both of which are organized by the host postdoctoral research station.
