Job Description The Waste-to-Energy Engineering Laboratory (WE Lab) in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Chungbuk National University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in environmental engineering and sciences. The group focuses on anaerobic digestion and resource recovery from organic wastes such as livestock manure, sewage sludge, and food waste. Responsibilities will include designing and operating lab-scale anaerobic digesters, conducting chemical and gas analyses, assisting with microbial community analysis, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and preparing research publications and reports.
Required qualifications: a Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemical/biochemical engineering, or a related field, with research experience in anaerobic digestion, biological wastewater treatment, or a closely related bioprocess. A record of peer-reviewed publications and good written and oral communication skills in English are also required. Desirable qualifications include experience with anaerobic digestion and bioelectrochemical systems, practical skills in designing, building, and operating lab- or pilot-scale reactors (e.g., batch/BMP tests, CSTRs, UASB-type systems); proficiency with analytical instruments such as GC, HPLC, IC, and advanced organic matter characterization; and basic experience with microbial or molecular tools (e.g., DNA extraction, qPCR, or collaboration on NGS-based studies). This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and funding. The start date is flexible and can be negotiated.
