Job Description

The Department of Environmental and Sustainable Engineering (ESE) in the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE) at the University at Albany, the State University of New York is seeking a motivated Ph.D. student to work in Dr. Md. Aynul Bari’s air quality lab starting from Fall 2026. The prospective student will use low-cost sensors and cost-effective monitoring techniques for indoor and outdoor sample collection and conduct lab analysis to characterize hazardous air pollutants (e.g., VOCs), and emerging air contaminants (e.g., PFAS) across residential neighborhoods.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have a M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or a closely related discipline, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. Preference will be given to students with research experience in air quality sampling and chemical analysis, as well as having working knowledge of Python and/or R. Experience with LC-MS-MS and GC-MS is preferred. Applicants must have or be able to obtain a valid NYS driver’s license.
