Job Description

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Environmental Engineering. The postdoc researcher will work primarily with Dr. Kaoru Ikuma on projects related to corrosion mitigation and technology development. Primary responsibilities include conducting laboratory and field experiments, supporting project management activities, supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students, and disseminating research findings. These roles will contribute to fast-paced, applied research projects, and individuals must be able to adapt quickly to evolving project needs and timelines. There will be opportunities to mentor undergraduate and graduate students and contributing to writing grant proposals. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively convey technical information to a wide range of audiences, including entrepreneurs, industry partners, and investors.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field before the start date. The ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience in lab-based environmental biofilm research, including work done using molecular biology as well as surface-sensitive analytical techniques. Experience with material science/material development and/or minerals characterization would be a plus. The candidate should have a demonstrated track record of publishing high-quality articles in peer-reviewed journals.
