The Environmental Molecular and Synthetic Biology Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has an opening for a Postdoc (PI: Dr. Na Wei,, starting from Summer 2022. Candidates with strong research experiences in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, bioengineering, environmental biotechnology and microbiology are welcome. 

Our lab will provide the opportunity to work on exciting research projects in the emerging areas of synthetic biology for environmental applications. Specific research directions include: i) biosensing, ii) waste-to-energy/value biotransformation and resource recovery, iii) biocatalysis for water reclamation and environmental remediation. Underlying the abovementioned research areas is the combined application of molecular biology techniques, synthetic biology, systems biology (omics), and environmental engineering principles. The environmental molecular and synthetic biology lab, the CEE department, and UIUC have state-of-the-art facility to support the research.
