Ph.D. positions available at Chu biotechnology lab at TAMU Dr. Chu’s biotechnology laboratory in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station (Texas A&M University) invites applications for two Ph.D. student positions.
The successful applicants will be engaged in biodegradation, fate, and treatment of persistent organic pollutants and emerging contaminants, focusing on biodegradation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), or development and applications of novel methods to address issues in bioremediation, water, and bioenergy. Candidates with previous laboratory experience in environmental microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) biotransformation, and bioinformatics are highly desirable.
The ideal candidate must have a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering, environmental microbiology, or a related field, with specific expertise in laboratory methods for microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, or modeling. Successful applicants will also demonstrate excellent writing and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Applicants who are currently in the U.S. are highly encouraged to apply for Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
