Job Description

Prof. Vikram Kapoor at the University of Texas at San Antonio has an immdiate opening for a full-time postdoctoral research position. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for applying molecular and analytical workflows (e.g., qPCR/ddPCR, and/or sequencing-based approaches) to detect and quantify pathogens, chemical biomarkers, and other target analytes in wastewater samples collected across municipal and community sewersheds.

A primary focus will be on processing and analyzing samples collected in the field as part of a soon-to-begin wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) surveillance program, including sample receipt, extraction, target analysis, and data quality control from real community-scale collection sites.

As part of the larger project team, they would interact regularly with team members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds in environmental engineering, analytical chemistry, public health, and municipal/public agency partners, both within and outside of academia, providing ample opportunities for career learning, development, and networking.

Qualifications and Skills

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related field
  • Experience with molecular methods (qPCR/ddPCR) and/or sequencing analysis, or willingness to learn
  • Organization & record keeping
  • Teamwork & collaboration, including mentoring junior researchers and interdisciplinary science
