Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, North Carolina State University The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose work centers on developing AI-driven approaches that strengthen decision-making in complex, real-world settings, with an emphasis on solid waste and materials management and lifecycle assessment. We invite applications from scholars with strong domain expertise in solid waste engineering who are also grounded in underlying fundamental aspects, which could include environmental chemistry, microbiology, geoenvironmental engineering and/or systems analysis, and who have integrated AI into their research. We look for researchers who will develop programs with impacts on the design, planning and operations of solid waste management systems of the future, the sustainability of resource management, and the resilience and safety of communities.
The experience you bring will contribute to one or more of the following areas of solid waste management:
- Municipal solid waste management/treatment
- Fate and transport of contaminants of emerging concern in engineered solid waste management systems
- Management/treatment of societal wastes (e-waste, textiles, organic waste, plastics/microplastics)
- Resource and energy recovery
- Landfill gas emissions
- Landfill leachate management/treatment
- Lifecycle assessment and techno-economic analysis applied to solid waste management
