Job Description

We are currently seeking to hire postdoctoral researchers in the areas of geotechnical engineering, cementitious materials, and materials characterization at Colorado School of Mines. This position is initially one year with possibility of extension to two years. The new hire is expected to start by August 15, 2022 or shortly thereafter.

The applicant’s job duties include the following: Conducting laboratory and field studies aimed at production of construction materials from mine tailings. Our research team has conducted chemical, physical, mineralogical, and geotechnical characterization of tailings and we will collectively explore new technological solutions targeted to produce geopolymer concrete, lightweight aggregates, ceramics, and cementitious materials from mine tailings. The applicant will assist with the preparation of project reports and scholarly manuscripts. For more information about the ongoing work, please visit our Center for Mining Sustainability.

The successful candidate will meet the following required criteria:

A PhD in a related field (civil and environmental engineering, materials engineering, geological engineering, mining engineering, chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, or other related fields).

Work authorization to work in the US. The project does not provide sponsorship for visa and only applicants with the current work authorization in the US will be considered. 

Strong publication record in high quality peer-reviewed journals

Strong commitment to collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusion

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish for collaboration with partner research teams in Peru

Ability to travel to Peru

Prior experience with one or more of the following: cement testing, materials characterization using equipment such as SEM, XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS, ICP-AES, FTIR, TGA, Micro-CT.
